Innovating wastewater management

With rapid demographic changes, economic development, rampant urban growth and increases in population density, the volume of wastewater washing into our environment has become a genuine concern.

Your challenges

Treating wastewater

The disposal of untreated or poorly treated wastewater in the natural environment produces pollution that is catastrophic for biodiversity and the quality of water resources. To meet this challenge, regulations on water quality have been tightened to protect the environment. At the same time, specifications for the treatment of urban wastewater have become much more stringent.

Our solutions

Limiting the impact of wastewater treatment plants on the environment

As part of the process to optimise facilities, we set up preventive maintenance plans. This approach helps guarantee the longevity of wastewater plants and ultimately conserves legacy assets.

Compliance with local health and environmental standards

Our wastewater treatment facilities are fully compliant with health and environmental standards. We guarantee meeting the water quality standards required for treated wastewater, or use as recycled water. In addition, we meet the standards that apply to discharges. At SUEZ, we design, build, and operate wastewater plants that are optimised for investment return and operating cost efficiencies.

Process performance

In the field of urban wastewater treatment, we have developed new solutions that can combine a biological treatment with refining using membrane filtration. Our efficient designs with smaller footprints enable operators to lower the consumption of energy and reactive agents. These solutions support the preservation of biodiversity in the natural environment, as well as serve to protect water resources.

Today more than 3.5 million Australians are serviced by a wastewater treatment plant operated and maintained by SUEZ and our partners. We operate as both project manager and water treatment specialist, taking full control of all stages of the process to design and build treatment plants.

Our innovations

Wastewater treatment plant of the future

Through continuous research and development, SUEZ strives to enhance the performance of wastewater treatment plants.

By utilising innovative technologies, we will be able to expend less energy on wastewater treatment while the treated water will surpass even the most stringent regulations.

In addition, as illustrated below, a big part of the wastewater treatment plant of the future is focused on generating energy and recovering nutrients, not simply producing clean water from wastewater.

With the right technologies, we will be able to recover valuable resources from wastewater more efficiently which will make the whole wastewater process more sustainable, and economically viable.
