Ethical values are at the heart of our mission to safeguard resources. For SUEZ, ethics has always been pivotal in improving our performance and competitiveness.

Our ethical values

Four fundamental principles

SUEZ is committed to implementing high ethical standards. Our values are based on four fundamental principles defined in the Ethics Charter: excellence, commitment, audacity and collaboration. 

In practice, these four fundamental principles apply to the three circles in which SUEZ operates:

  • our company itself, including SUEZ employees, shareholders and entities
  • the market, where we maintain relations with our customers, suppliers, partners and competitors, and
  • the environment in the countries in which we operate.

In addition to the Ethics Charter, we publish manuals and procedures aimed at clarifying these rules and ensuring compliance with them.

We also reaffirm our commitment to ethical values as an advanced member of the Global Compact Initiative, based on the 10 principles of the United Nations Global Compact, and a member of the French section of Transparency International.

Acting stringently and effectively

The Board of Directors' Ethics and Sustainable Development Committee is tasked with monitoring the ethics policy and guaranteeing employees' respect of the individual and collective values underlying our actions.

The ethics policy is coordinated by the General Secretary, who is the Group's ethics officer. A network of around 30 ethics officers are responsible for implementing the policy within their entity and ensuring that ethics-related questions and alerts are properly handled.

Responsible lobbying: a matter of transparency and integrity

Lobbying is increasingly attracting the attention of stakeholders. In 2013, we adopted an internal code of conduct in line with the Ethics Charter. It contains eight key commitments for each employee or consultant acting on our behalf in lobbying activities.

We maintain continuous dialogue with public institutions at the local level, and at the national, European and international level.

In Australia, SUEZ engages constructively with government, elected representatives, regulatory officials and other interest groups and organisations to create the best legal and regulatory conditions for the long-term development of our business.

Given our operational experience and technical expertise, SUEZ also has a role to play in clarifying the consequences and practical implications of the legislative proposals and policy measures under discussion.

Where applicable, SUEZ complies with the codes of conduct established as part of the relevant federal and state lobbyist registers.
