Campbell Primary School has been awarded a $15,000 grant from resource management company SUEZ to develop a new creative playground area.
The grant will enable the school to offer a much-needed outdoor play and fitness space for the school’s 79 Year One students. It will also be used by students attending the on-site Out of School Hours Care service.
Campbell’s Manager Corporate Services, Sue Forman said that it will extend the available play space in line with growing student numbers, bringing the Year One play area to three times the existing size.
“The funds will be used to transform an area that contained transportable buildings and bike racks into a grass area with play equipment, creating an outdoor play space that is stimulating and creative play-based,” Mrs Forman said.
“This will assist with the development of gross motor skills and fitness as part of the school curriculum, and help students to build social skills.”
The new play space will also be used by teachers for outdoor learning activities.

Gavin Denness, SUEZ’s State Sales Manager Western Australia presented the cheque to Ms Lynne Bates, Principal, at the school on on Thursday 14 March 2019, taking the opportunity to inspect work in progress on the new play facilities.
“Play is such an important part of learning, and all children should have the opportunity to explore their outdoor environment in a fun and engaging way,” Ms Bates said.
“We are happy to help the school transform a sandy, barren space into a stimulating environment to be enjoyed by the Campbell community for years to come, said Mr Denness
Creative play is critical in developing imagination and allowing students to experiment with their environment. It also aids socialisation and communication skills and encourages children to get active in the outdoors.
Now in its fifth year, the SUEZ Community Grants program has donated more than $740,000 in funding to community organisations and projects across Australia that help communities and the environment thrive.
