Organic Resource Recovery Facilities (ORRFs)

Our ORRFs accept source-separated organic material such as garden organics, liquid grease trap, and some commercial organic feedstocks including timber and sawdust. Organic material, or green waste, consists of grass clippings, leaves, flowers, weeds, prunings, twigs and small branches, small timber offcuts (excluding treated timber, chipboard or MDF), fruit, vegetable scraps and most other food waste, excluding meat and bones.

These materials are processed via open-air composting into high quality compost products for use in home gardens, agriculture, sporting fields and public spaces, improving soil fertility and reducing the environmental harm associated with chemical fertilisers. They can also be used in land rehabilitation projects.
